According to multiple reports, the next-generation 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD is coming with improved tech. As you may already know, the current model Silverado HD and the redesigned GMC Sierra HD were unveiled last year and both models provide impressive towing and torque figures. However, that hasn’t stopped General Motors to make some improvements and make this heavy-duty pickup even more competitive for the 2021 model year.
First of all, it will come with better software and no less than 15 security camera systems. Besides that, HD models will feature various in-vehicle technology and two big engines, gasoline, and a turbodiesel.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Design
The new 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD will look better than before. In addition, the manufacturer will refresh the whole line of HD pickups and it will make this truck more competitive. Most of the changes can be seen on the revised grille, better-shaped LED headlights and fog lights. On the back, this model will boast a new bed called DuraBed that’s exclusive on all heavy-duty models.
With the long-bed option, the heavy-duty model provides a class-leading volume of 83.5 cubic feet. Also, we can see some modifications on the side profile and the manufacturer used enlarged corner steps and standard side steps to ensure easy access in. Trailer-tow mirrors are standard as the power-operated tailgate. The new trailer system will use up to 15 unique cameras to monitor space around the truck.
Z71 Off-Road Package is also available with unique suspension, Rancho shocks, hill-descent control, and skid plate.
Interior Design and Safety
Like the current model, the new 2021 Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickup will be available in five trims: WT (work truck), Custom, LT, LTZ, and the range-topping High Country. Each of these trim will provide own uniqueness. For example, the base model will be equipped with air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Furthermore, choosing up the top-line High Country models, buyers will enjoy all the benefits. This model will include a bigger 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system, Bose audio, and ventilated front seats.
Safety and driver-assistance options are also improved and now all heavy-duty pickups include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and the Advanced Trailering System.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Engine Specs and Towing Capacity
As we mentioned, the upcoming 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD will be available with two big powertrains to choose from. The standard model will use a 6.6-liter gasoline V8 that replaces the old 6.0-liter Vortec. This powertrain makes 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. From the information that we got, this engine will use the same 6-speed automatic as the current model.
The second engine is a Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel that delivers 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the gasoline engine, this powertrain will use a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. Thanks to improved axles, prop shaft, U-joint and other components, this model provides better loads. The towing is increased, and from the worst-in-class 23,100 pounds, this model jumps to the best-in-class with 35,500 pounds of towing.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Release Date and Price
The upcoming 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup truck will come with improved techs and the manufacturer will add more standard features inside. Overall, this model is a hard worker and because of that, it is available with strong engines. Thanks to that, it provides best-in-class towing.
