The upcoming 2021 Toyota Tacoma will share a platform with a new Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The two models are ready for further updates. That includes further interior modernization and a couple of visual upgrades. However, modern architecture is perhaps the highlight of the all-new Tacoma. Besides that, Toyota plans to add more versatility and attractiveness.
We are not sure how will this affects performance and vehicle dimensions. On the other hand, nobody really cares. Tacoma is getting better and better and best models in the mid-size segment has to be worried. Finally, Toyota’s TRD variant will also become available, and it will bring amazing performances.
2021 Toyota Tacoma – New Platform is Shared With Tundra Truck
The all-new 2021 Toyota Tacoma will be built on the F1 platform. While it is not official yet, Tacoma will share the underpinnings with the Tundra pickup truck. Whatsoever, both models are made at the same facility in Texas. The new platform will surely improve Tacoma’s payload and towing capabilities. On top of that, new platform could mean that the hybrid variant is coming soon.
Furthermore, this change will make Tacoma even more competitive in the evolving market. We are still waiting for Toyota to confirm the new architecture. Moreover, you can expect slight dimensional changes as well.
Exterior and Interior Redesign
A couple of reliable reports are suggesting a redesign. Whatsoever, all trim levels will get additional changes and more uniqueness. The 2021 Toyota Tacoma should get a cleaner approach in terms of design. That mainly includes the front fascia with the all-new grille and set of headlights. Furthermore, new all-season tires, bed lights and taillights are in the works. The goal is to deliver a more modern appearance so we could also expect new exterior colors.
As for the interior, the 2021 Tacoma will continue in the same manner. Toyota will introduce more high-quality materials, new upholstery, and more standard features. A couple of features will be revised, such as tachometer and the dashboard. A new 8-inch touchscreen will be offered as standard. On top of that, fresh air vents are available, and infotainment system will get all of the essential updates. Upper trim levels will also get various changes. We also bet on the new interior color schemes.
Engine Options and Hybrid Rumors
For 2021, this mid-size pickup should largely remain in terms of engine options. That means the 2021 Toyota Tacoma will continue with its 2.7-liter powertrain. This engine is producing 160 hp. A 3.5-liter V6 is an optional choice that will generate up to 280 horsepower. The third option is a 2.8-liter diesel. This output will deliver 195 horses and 350 lb-ft of torque. All three units will deploy a 6-speed automatic transmission. If you are a fan of gasoline engine, we strongly recommend optional V6.
With 3.5-liter, Tacoma accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. Current Tacoma tows up to 7,000 pounds. However, we already mentioned that the towing capacity would surely improve. A new hybrid version is also likely. Toyota will deploy three smaller generators and a battery pack. Everything is combined with a 3.5-liter V6. Thanks to that, 2021 Tacoma Hybrid will generate around 300 horses. This is just a rumor for now, and we are waiting for the official confirmation.
