According to numerous reports, a new 2022 Toyota Hilux is getting another facelift. It is a part of mid-cycle updates before the new-gen model arrives in 2023. There were plenty of rumors about the next generation. Now, it is basically official that the 2023 Hilux is the new-gen vehicle. That means the 2022 Hilux can only get mid-cycle refreshment.
For that reason, don’t expect major upgrades in the next two years. The same reports are suggesting new-gen Fortuner SUV and two models will share plenty of similarities. From what we know, both exterior and interior will gain new features. However, the design will largely remain. Moreover, significant changes under the hood are less likely.

2022 Toyota Hilux Exterior Structuring
The upcoming 2022 Toyota Hilux will arrive with minor changes. That includes mid-cycle exterior refreshments. For a start, this truck is about to gain slight changes on the front fascia. Hilux will keep its angular design, dimensions are intact, along with the shape. However, wider grille and reshaped headlight units are coming.
Furthermore, the rear part will get a reshaped bumper. All trim levels will get similar changes, if not the same. It is a regular facelift before the next-gen Hilux arrives. As for the new generation, the unibody platform is a possibility. As we already wrote, Fortuner SUV and Hilux pickup should gain similar styling cues.

Interior Updates
The same story should be applied inside the cabin. The new 2022 Toyota Hilux is in the works and minor interior updates are about to happen. Obviously, rumors about the brand-new cabin design are false. Still, the Hilux pickup truck will get numerous refreshments in terms of tech. The latest version of the infotainment system is available while standard and optional displays will remain. Toyota could reduce the number of buttons and most of the controls will be available on the touchscreen.
The Interior layout will carry over into 2022. Furthermore, air vents, upholstery, and similar features are intact. List of standard features on all trim levels will be longer this time, which is a piece of good news. Don’t expect design changes on the dashboard or instrument panel. The only change will happen in the technology department. That means you can expect more driver-assistance aids.
2022 Toyota Hilux Engine Revisions
No changes under the hood, that is official. A new powertrain option could become available in 2023 once the next-gen Hilux arrives. Before that happens, 2022 Toyota Hilux continues its journey with the same engine lineup. Everything starts at a 2.7-liter gasoline engine with 165 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. The optional turbodiesel is more recommended.
This 2.4-liter powertrain provides better efficiency and higher torque rating. Still, a 2.8-liter that generates 175 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of twisting power is the most popular engine choice. All powertrains are available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission is not available, like in the previous versions.

Price and Release Date
Brand-new 2022 Toyota Hilux will cost $22,000. It is a small price increase and upper trim levels will start at over $40,000. Unfortunately, the Hilux pickup truck isn’t made to pass U.S. safety regulations and emission standards. On the other hand, it is the best-selling pickup truck in Australia. The Japanese automaker will release the new Hilux in the second half of 2021.
