2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Spied Testing, Bison Package Review

The forthcoming 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 has been spied testing for the first time on a public road. Interestingly, the new range-topping midsize truck is heavily camouflaged, but we managed to see some refreshments. First of all, unlike the regular Colorado model, the ZR2 package will bring many upgrades.

Taking a closer look at the spied model, we noticed covered tail lights with “SR5” handwritten via a black marker on the upper, front-most corner. However, “R” is written backward, which means that the intended message is written on the inside of the camo. Flipping the image reveals “ZR2”, which means the prototype is the upcoming 2023 Colorado ZR2.

2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Redesign

The latest 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is the most rugged off-road trim in the lineup. This model is all that you need if you’re looking for the ultimate off-roader. On top of that, it’s the only one to come standard with four-wheel drive in class. As before, the new ZR2 will be available with a variety of appearance-enhancing options.

For just $5,750, you can get the Bison package. This model looks much more attractive, and it features a bunch of kits, a special front bumper, boron-steel skid plates for added underbody protection, unique fender flares, and specially made 17-inch wheels. Overall, no matter which model you choose, you will get more features for invested money.

Cabin Upgrades

Inside, the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 looks more sporty than the regular variant. However, it features the same comfortable cabin, offering room for five passengers. To keep things fresh, Colorado received a few enhancements for 2023. First of all, the cabin is arguably more handsome, including the same 8-inch infotainment screen that’s standard on the LT trim and higher. Luckily, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the trims.

The off-road-ready ZR2 model also features many driver-assist features like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane centering.

2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Powertrain Specs and Towing Capacity

As far as we know, the upcoming 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 will come with a new engine. It should consist of a turbocharged 2.7L I-4 L3B gasoline motor currently offered in the Silverado 1500. This engine is potent, and it produced healthy 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque.

On top of that, it will come with the new GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission that will handle shifting duty with ease. Unfortunately, the atmospheric 2.5L I-4 LCV, 3.6L V-6 LGZ, and the 2.8L I-4 LWN turbo-diesel baby Duramax will no longer be on the offer. The Colorado ZR2’s maximum payload rating is around 1,350 pounds, with a maximum towing on up to 5,000 pounds.

How Much Does a ZR2 Cost?

The upcoming 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 along the regular truck will continue to be built at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. In the same plant, the manufacturer also assembles the new 2023 GMC Canyon.

We expect the latest model to cost slightly more than the current model that starts at $45,000. In the same category are many popular trucks like Ford Raptor, Ram 1500 TRX, and Jeep Gladiator.
