The second-generation 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid pickup will reportedly go on sale next year. Surprisingly, the current model is already sold out, and the new 2023MY will come with minor changes. If you didn’t know, this small pickup has been nominated as the best truck to buy in 2021. So, it will definitively continue to dominate the pickup truck segment.
Like the previous model, the new one will be based on the Bronco model, which is build on the same Escape’s chassis. The Ford Maverick is available with two different engines, starting with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson inline-4, electric motor, and 94-kW battery pack.
2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid Design
The 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid is an attractive pickup truck with very compact styling. Interestingly, it comes with the similar front end we saw on the F-Series. On the front, it dominates with black mesh grille and LED headlights. Boxy appearance is still there, and the new Maverick uses the same unibody construction as many Ford’s models. The truck’s proportions will probably remain, with up to 8.6 inches of ground clearance.
You will also have a chance to get attractive alloy wheels of 17 or 18-inch. However, the XL is the only trim that is offering steel wheels, while other ones come with either painted aluminum, bright aluminum, and black painted aluminum wheels. On the back, the Maverick features halogen taillights and the tailgate with “Maverick” embossed in the lower portion.
What Changes Can We Expect Inside?
The cabin of the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid will be modern, and we expect it to share many cues with the Bronco Sport model. Generally speaking, you can count on high-quality materials and plenty of technologies. On the inside, the entry-level appears to be well-equipped with plenty of thoughtful storage spaces. As the previous model, the new one will offer seats for five, and if you fold up the rear seats, you will have access to two large storage bins. On the other hand, the hybrid models will take one of the storage bins by the battery pack.
Like the outgoing model, the new one will probably keep the same 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, as a standard you’ll get the FordPass Connect with WI-FI for up to 10 devices.
2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid Specs
As we mentioned, the forthcoming 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid will combine a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, electric motor, and 94-kW battery pack. Thanks to that, it will be able to deliver 191 horsepower sending power from a continuously variable automatic transmission. Compared to the fuel economy of many compact cars, the Maverick Hybrid wins with estimates at 42 mpg city/33 mpg highway/37 mpg combined.
Besides hybrid setup, there is an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is optional. The EcoBoost engine also comes with a very smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. However, the fuel numbers of this model can be better, considering that it is rated 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Price, Release Date
We expect the price of the 2023 Ford Maverick to remain unchanged, so the XL trim level should cost less than $20,000. Keep in mind that the price is not including destination charges.
However, stepping into the Lariat model, the price will jump to $37,000. This small pickup will hit dealerships in the second half of 2022. As far as we know, the Hyundai Santa Cruz is the only closest competitor in this segment with similar pricing.
