The new 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X off-road model will reportedly arrive this summer. While GMC hasn’t revealed any specs on the upcoming off-roader, but we expect it to borrow many bits from the popular Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. This means we should count on the same Multimatic’s spool-valve dampers, locking front and rear differentials, Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, and a wider stance with increased clearances compared to the original version.
In case you didn’t know, GMC also offers a Canyon AT4, which comes with an off-road-tuned suspension, Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, locking rear differential, and a skid plate for the transfer case. However, thanks to tons more goodies, the forthcoming AT4X will be even more off-road capable.
2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Exterior
Unlike the AT4 model, the new 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will be more off-road capable thanks to many improvements. The teaser image is available, and the upcoming truck looks really awesome. It features the same 17-inch beadlock-capable all-terrain tires that we saw on the recently introduced Colorado ZR2.
Moreover, considering that AT4X will share many features with the mentioned model, we also expect to get the same Multimatic spool-valve dampers along with front and rear lockers. We must mention that this model is not the first one that will receive this treatment, the same package is also recently added to the full-size Sierra.
Inside, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will be way more modern than the original or AT4 version. From information that we got, the cabin will be made with more quality materials offering luxury feel. However, as mentioned model, the AT4X will come with the same seating arrangements.
This truck will be able to fit up to five passengers offering great comfort for all. We also expect it to come with some unique AT4X stitchwork better package of equipment. It should include a bigger infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a backup camera, air conditioning, and much more.

Unfortunately, at this moment, the manufacturer didn’t reveal any info regarding the engine of the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X. GMC will most likely retain the 2.8-liter turbodiesel, that will likely use mild-hybrid technology. Thanks to that, this model will be more competitive in the segment, and it will get more greener motoring offering great mileage.
The current non-X model AT4 is powered by two engine options. The first one is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 308 hp and 369 lb.-ft. of torque, while the second one is a proven 2.8-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel engine. With those engines, the AT4 can tow up to 3425 KG (7550 LB.)
How Much Will the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Cost?
As we know so far, the new GMC Canyon AT4X will not be an affordable off-roader at all. Unlike the AT4 model that starts at $42,000, the forthcoming AT4X will reportedly cost little less than $50K.
Fortunately, we didn’t need a top with longer because this truck will debut sometime this summer. When released, the new AT4X will try to beat models like the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Jeep Gladiator, and even Ford Ranger Raptor.
