One of the best pickup trucks globally, the 2023 Toyota Hilux, has been spied testing wrapped in heavy camo. The prototype, according to the photographer, has been spotted in Thailand traffic. Interestingly, the new batch of photos shows several changes, including different alloy wheels and some new exterior accessories.
Moreover, considering what we saw, the Toyota Hilux will only receive mild upgrades. In general, this pickup truck is still a few years away from being replaced with an all-new model. However, media reports earlier this year suggested that Toyota release a GR Sport HiLux in late 2021 as the 2022 model. From what we heard, this model should offer several styling and suspension enhancements.
2023 Toyota Hilux Redesign
The upcoming 2023 Toyota Hilux spy shots are available, and we noticed under the camouflaged body some changes. First of all, the new truck should remain proportionally the same, with the same cab and bed configuration. As mentioned, the spied prototype comes with different alloy wheels compared to the outgoing model and with some new exterior accessories.
We noticed some small refreshments on the front, including a much better grille and a little tinier headlights. Also, it seems that the upcoming model comes with the same tailgate as its predecessor and with much smaller taillights on the back. Besides the regular model, the manufacturer will also introduce the sportier GR Sport HiLux. This model will come with a more off-road equipment, and it should be more attractive.
On the inside, we don’t expect some significant changes at all. The current Toyota Hilux offers a very spacious and quality cabin. Generally speaking, it’s one of the equipped models in the class. It includes an Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration and either the standard 7-inch or an enormous 8-inch variety of screens.
Of course, more features come standard on the upper trims. For example, you can get a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with an SR5 trim and above and much better comfort. Otherwise, like the previous model, the new one should offer the same configuration inside and enough room for five passengers.
2023 Toyota Hilux Powertrain Specs
Power for the upcoming 2023 Toyota Hilux comes from a choice of two different engines. The standard is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces a modest 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. As before, power is routed to the rear wheels (2WD) or all four (4WD). It also uses a 6-speed automatic transmission that is very smooth.
A better choice is the optional 3.5-liter V6. It is more potent than the first one, delivering nearly 120 horses more (278) and a significant boost in torque 265 lb-ft. However, it provides almost identical fuel-economy figures as the smaller 4-cylinder engine. Besides, buyers should also have an alternative to choose between the 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission with this engine.
Release Date, Price
The debut of the new 2023 Toyota Hilux is expected to happen next year. Most likely, it will hit markets in the second half of the year. As mentioned, the prototype has been recently spied testing, featuring refreshed styling.
Considering all updates and changes, the price of the next model will significantly jump for sure. The current base model starts at 26,000, and it can go up to 55k for the SR5 variant.
