The forthcoming 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty models are set to receive a major refresh next year. According to the manufacturer, the new Sierra HD models will include new front and rear-end designs, a more modern interior, and potential powertrain updates.
It’s worth noting that this truck was originally slated for the 2023 model year, but due to complications brought on by COVID-19 and a shortage of superconductor chips, it’s been delayed. As before, we expected this truck to continue with two engine options, naturally-aspirated gasoline, and turbocharged diesel engines.
2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty Redesign
The forthcoming 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty has been spied recently heavily camouflaged, but some parts of this truck are almost entirely undisguised. From what we saw, the new truck is wearing a revised front fascia, which hosts a more attractive grille, hood, as well as headlights.
Other than that, everything else is cleverly covered by curious eyes. Anyway, we expect the new model to bring a slew of updates and changes to Big Red’s big rigs, including restyled front and rear ends,
First Look Inside
The 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty, particularly in Crew Cab form, offers excellent headroom and legroom. It can fit up to six people and the seats are covered in Jet Black leather with perforated inserts of Kalahari tan. In general, the design of this truck will vary depending on trim levels.
For example, the Denali interior comes with premium leather seating surfaces with contrast stitching, along with dark aluminum trim and open-pore wood. A more off-road-focused AT4 has even more darkened trim complemented by textured aluminum finishes visible on the steering wheel, center stack, and sill plates. The base HD model comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, and amazing new 13.4-inch infotainment.
2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty Engine Options
Under the bonnet, the new 2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty will likely offer the same gasoline and turbocharged diesel engines. The current model uses a 6,6-liter V8 naturally-aspirated gasoline engine that makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard with a 6-speed automatic (MYD) transmission.
The more powerful is a 6,6-liter Duramax turbo V8, producing 455 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the base model, this one uses an Allison 10-speed automatic (MGM, MGU) transmission, offering very smooth shifting. Have in mind that it’s possible we may see revisions to the above offerings with the coming refresh.
GMC claims that the base model is able to pull 18,500 pounds and carry 3,863 pounds. Nevertheless, with an additional conventional trailer, you can tow 20,000 pounds. Diesel engine is king, and it can pull up to 36,000 pounds and payload 6,610 pounds with dual rear wheels.
2024 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty Price, Release Date
The entry-level rear-drive Sierra 2500 Heavy Duty with a regular cab and a long box starts at $35,900. Optionally, you can get an all-wheel drive, which is $2,800. However, a more powerful 4WD Crew Cab Denali 3500 HD with a long box and dual rear wheels costs $69,095.
In general, the price of the range-topping variant can reach $80k with several added options. These prices are considerable, and they are in line with heavy-duty pickups from Ford and Ram. We’re expecting the new model to appear sometime next year as 2024YM.
